Thinking about a change?
You might discover a new interest, want to try different activities or find that your current department is not quite right for you. It is okay to ask about moving. Start by talking with your current Chief if you feel comfortable doing so.
How to get started
- Talk to your current Chief about what you are looking for. They may be able to help you find the right role.
- Speak with the Chief of the department you would like to join. Ask what their team does and how you could take part.
- Let the Chiefs know if you would like to go ahead with the move. They can speak with Command Staff about the next steps.
- Once the change is agreed, check that your department is updated in the ship's roster.
Need another person to talk to? If your reason for moving involves a problem with your Chief, speak with another Chief, the SO or the XO. You do not need to discuss a concern with the person it involves before asking someone else for help.
For Department Chiefs
Listen to the crewmember and help them find the right place aboard. The current and prospective Chiefs should work together on a smooth handover, let Command Staff know about the change and keep roster details accurate. Treat personal reasons for moving with care.
